Obituary of Edward J. Hirsch

Edward J. Hirsch, 80 of Vineland, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 25, 2014. Ed was born in Trenton, NJ, on March 6, 1934. He was a graduate of Vineland High School's Class of 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning what he hoped wouldbe a lifetime of military service. He proudly served from 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1958 as a Staff Sargent of Marines, some of his most memorable assignments were 10th Marine Regiment, 2D Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC and as a Drill Instructor at Marine Corp Recruit Depot, Paris Island, SC. He worked in a variety of sales positions and spent many years designing and installing commercial and residential swimming pools. Ed was an active life member of the Marine Corps League Det 205. The Military Order of the Devil Dog, and the American Legion Post 82. He enjoyed countless hours volunteering at the Landis Theater. Ed enjoyed reading, traveling with his wife and grandchildren, wood working, hunting, and fishing. One of Pop-Pop's greatest joys was sharing his love and talents with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by the "fellas" he played poker with on Friday nights. Ed was preceded in death by his son, Edward John, III, his parents, and his sister Rae Feller. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Paula Thibodeau-Hirsch, his children and stepchildren. Amy Burgess (Greg), Joseph Vastano (Trish), John Vastano (Andrea), Michael Vastano (Andrea), Kathleen Hirsch, Steven Hirsch (Ada), Linda Giordano (Matt), John Hirsch, and Glen Hirsch (Harry). His grandchildren Scott, Thomas, Marianne, Robert, Gregory, and Kelianne Burgess, Joey and Janey Vastano, Nick and Elizabeth Vastano. Bonnie Winfield, Steven, Jonathan, and Lily Hirsch, Laura, Matthew, Daniel, and Christen Giordano. He is also survived by his Sister-in-law Maude Durbin (Chris), his nieces Rae Haggist, Deborah Salant, Donna Felter, Carol Felter, and Maureen Meehan, and his nephew Elliot and Madison Durbin.
