Obituary of Benjamin Forstein

Benjamin ("Ben") Forstein of Vineland passed away on March 14, at age 95, Ben Forstein passed away after a short hospitalization. Ben was married for 57 years to Esther Forstein, who passed away in 2007. He missed her greatly. He was also predeceased in 2001 by a daughter, Linda Forstein. He was a loving husband and father to four children and was blessed with seven grandchildren. Born in Willow Grove, NJ to the late Samuel and Lena Forstein, Ben grew up on a farm with his parents and brother, Eugene, and sisters, Dorothy, Gertrude, and Ida, all deceased. He graduated from Vineland High School and became a long time resident of Vineland, where he owned and operated Super Auto Service on N. Delsea Drive with his brother. Ben was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed family activities. He was a member of Beth Israel Congregation, served as President of its Men's' Club, and regularly attended morning Minyan. He belonged to B'nai B'rith and the Hebrew Benevolent Society. He served multiple terms as President of Post 601of the Jewish War Veterans, and as Treasurer of the United Veterans Council. During the Second World War, Ben served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. After basic training at Ft. Dix, he was sent to Newport News, VA, where he was assigned to a ship that travelled through the Panama Canal and then to New Zealand and Australia. From there, he was deployed to the Pacific Theater, including Papua New Guinea, the (then) Dutch East Indies, and the Philippine Islands, in a unit charged with establishing field communications. He is survived by his son and his wife Samuel Forstein & Faye Ehrenstamm, daughter and her husband Ronda & Larry Berman, daughter and her husband Sandra & David Nussbaum; grandchildren Carolyn, Daniel, Jessica, Joshua, Jake, Rachel, & Cori. Graveside services and interment will be held Monday at 3:00 pm in Alliance Cemetery, Gershel Avenue, Norma, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the Berman residence in Vineland.
