Obituary of Salve N Maurizio

Salve N. Maurizio, 87, Korean War Veteran and lifelong Vineland resident, passed away in his sleep on July 31, 2015. Salve attended Vineland High School where he lettered in basketball and football before graduating in 1947. He was a Sergeant in the 45th Infantry Division of the Army during the Korean War, from 1950-52; he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the State of New Jersey Korean War Commemorative Medal, and other Distinguished Service Medals. In 1958 he founded Instant Disposal Service in Vineland with one truck; by the early 1970s he had four companies that served residences and businesses in a 50 mile radius in South Jersey. After selling the companies in the mid-1970s, he was the Regional Manager for Waste Management until 1987, when he became the Director of the Association of New Jersey Recyclers, retiring in 1993. In addition to his work, Salve volunteered his time in many ways. He served as the Chairman for the Solid Waste Advisory Committee of Cumberland County; President of the Hickory Gun Club; Treasurer of the Landis Country Club; and commander of the V.F.W. Post 157. As Paymaster and Vice Commander of the Korean War Veterans of Cumberland County, Salve worked tirelessly to establish the Memorial Garden and make several other improvements to the Veterans Memorial Intermediate School in Vineland. Salve was also generous in the community in other ways, donating to a large number of causes. In addition to playing sports in high school, Salve enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Flyers and the Washington Redskins, and loved watching his grandsons play basketball, soccer, and golf. He was also instrumental in securing the land for the Vineland Soccer Complex. Salve is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Nani) of 51 years; his daughter, Lisa Ann (Bruce) Dutra of Vineland; his son, Michael Maurizio of Baltimore; and two grandsons, Michael Patrick Maguire and Denis John Maguire. Salve was predeceased by his parents, Attilio and Jennie Maurizio; his brother, Michael Maurizio; and his sister, Virginia (Jesse) Calvario.
